E-learning: 2 rapports du JISC

Retention of Learning Materials: A Survey of Institutional Policies and Practice
Report of a study to investigate the retention of learning materials in the UK. The aim of the study was to document current policies and practice and immediate plans relating to universities’ and colleges’ retention of learning materials and, on the basis of this and other information, to advise universities and colleges on good practice, and advise JISC on future priorities in this area.

Sharing eLearning Content: a synthesis and commentary
A major review and synthesis of the work of various specified projects and programmes engaged in the development, use and sharing of elearning content. The study focused on deliverables and reports from a variety of projects and programmes, including the JISC Jorum, the Digital Libraries in the Classroom Programme, the Distributed eLearning Programme, the FAIR Programme, the Digital Repositories Programme, eLearning Transformational Projects (funded by the Scottish Funding Council) and the Exchange for Learning (X4L) staff development resources.

E-learning: quelques ressources

Digital Storytelling to Enhance Faculty Development in Universal Design for Learning
(source: Educause | type doc: présentation)

"This presentation will demonstrate discipline-specific case studies to enhance faculty development in universal design for learning. We will highlight California State University's EnACT project, which supports learning for 10,000 CSU students with disabilities, and MERLOT ELIXR, a faculty development collaboration across state systems and campuses for developing cases and shared teaching resources."

Improving Distributed Education Through Research: Three Studies of E-Pedagogy
(source: Educause | type doc: présentation)

"The demand for quality, effective online teaching environments is growing. Using three research studies (on social presence in distance learning, threaded discussion, and student technology usage), Academic Outreach proposed synchronous and asynchronous educational strategies to faculty and students in distributed/blended learning environments. Don't miss this opportunity to hear our results."

Using Emerging Student-Centered Technologies to Enhance the Curriculum
(source: Educause | type doc: présentation)

"This session will report on the Digital Enhanced Learning Initiative (DELI), which explores how student-centered technologies can enhance students' academic experiences. Students in five freshman seminars received an iPod or a digital camera to complete course work. Students keep the technology in exchange for sharing information on their use during their remaining four years at the college."

Enseignement virtuel

Sitas, Anestis and Dimo, Irini and Nikitakis, Michail and Papadourakis, George (2007), Preparing students to use virtual learning environments : information literacy and independent researching. In Proceedings Computer Based Learning in Science (CBLIS '07) : contemporary perspectives on new technologies in science and education, pp. 54-74, Crete (GR). (déposé sur E-LIS)

"The basic characteristics of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) and e-learning are presented. The issue of information overload and the production and dissemination of digital information is discussed. The importance and the necessity of access in evaluated information are reported. It is concluded that for underpin of VLEs, the organization of information literacy programmes with the collaboration of faculty members and library personnel, is essential."

Apprendre à tout âge

OEDb (Online Education Database) propose: The Self-Directed Student Toolbox: 100 Web Resources for Lifelong Learners.

"According to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), at least a quarter of the adult population fails to reach the minimum literacy levels needed to cope adequately with the demands of everyday life and work, let alone structural economic and social change. This information was gathered from a survey conducted in 12 OECD countries, which include the U.S., the U.K., and Australia. On the other hand, many adults are turning away from the television and turning on to lifelong learning through traditional classes, online schools, and travel."

Educause: A Teaching with Technology White Paper: Podcasting

A Teaching with Technology White Paper: Podcasting (un document Educause Connect)

This paper will explore educational podcasting in three realms: the creation and distribution of lecture archives for review, the delivery of supplemental educational materials and content, and assignments requiring students to produce and submit their own podcasts.

A propos de l'e-learning dans l'enseignement supérieur

White, S. (2007) Organizational Management of e-Learning in Universities – Significant Issues (Poster). Submitted to Second European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning “Creating new learning experiences on a global scale”, Crete, Greece.

Educational technology in higher education has not managed to match the ubiquity of technology in everyday life. Is this because higher education institutions are inherently resistant to change? The organization, structure, culture and climate of higher education institutions reflect the wider agendas of current and predominant practice. They may particularly influence the success or failure of initiatives to establish technology enhanced learning (TEL). This paper reports on analysis of a long term study of change in a UK university, and sets those findings in the context of wider experience across the sector and identifies significant issues which may enable or inhibit success.

White, S. (2007) Critical success factors for e-learning and institutional change – some organisational perspectives on campus-wide e-learning. British Journal of Educational Technology.

Computer technology has been harnessed for education in UK universities ever since the first computers for research were installed at ten selected sites in 1957. Subsequently real costs have fallen dramatically. Processing power has increased; network and communications infrastructure has proliferated; and information has become unimaginably accessible through the Internet and the World Wide Web. However, perhaps because higher education institutions are resistant to change, educational technology in universities has not managed to match the ubiquity of technology in everyday life. The reasons for differences between everyday experiences and those higher education and may lie in higher education practice. Higher education practice reflects the wider agendas of institutions manifested through their organisation, structure, culture and climate. These factors may particularly impact upon the potential for higher education to embrace and manage change in its educational activities; especially technology enhanced learning such as blended learning and e-learning. This paper briefly reviews the progress of educational technology, then identifies critical success factors for e-learning through an organisational perspective derived from studies of six UK higher education institutions.
