Le JISC a publié un rapport sur la conservation des e-revues: Comparative Study of e-Journal Archiving Solutions (pdf).

Le document couvre les points suivants: les différentes approches envisagées, les aspects légaux, une comparaison des 6 principaux projets actuels, les perspectives (et futures solutions) dans le domaine.

Le UK LOCKSS Pilot Programme a été évalué: le rapport est disponible ici (pdf).

"LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) is an e-mail archiving system which enables institutions to keep licensed e-journal content on local servers so that in the event that the material is no longer accessible from the publisher's servers, users can still access it. LOCKSS is an open-source, peer-to-peer, decentralised, digital preservation infrastructure that was developed, and is still maintained, by Stanford University Library. The UK LOCKSS Pilot Programme is based at the University of Glasgow and supports a community of UK LOCKSS users comprising of thirty UK Higher Education Institutions. The report considers the future sustainability of the UK LOCKSS Programme and contains recommendations."

Le Digital Curation Centre vient de publier son Draft DCC Curation Lifecycle Model.

"The model provides a generic graphical high-level overview of the stages required for successful curation and preservation of digital material from initial conceptualisation. The Digital Curation Centre will shortly start to use this draft model to ensure that information, services and advisory material cover all areas of the lifecycle.

Une des faiblesses du "mouvement" de l'OA (et des AO) réside à mon sens (mais je peux me tromper, d'ailleurs je me trompe certainement) dans la dispersion des efforts et des initiatives. Comprenez-moi bien, je ne suis pas contre la tenue, même hebdomadaire, d'une conférence ou d'un colloque sur la question, ou contre l'instauration de tel ou tel projet, mais à un moment donné, il faut être capable de réunir les forces en présence et de proposer un programme, une vision sous une même bannière. Européenne, par exemple. A tout hasard. Mais je rêve là, ce n'est pas dans la nature humaine...

Toujours est-il que l'ABD (qui fête ses 60 ans) et la KBR organise le lundi 19 novembre à Bruxelles un colloque intitulé "L'Europe face au défi de la conservation des documents numériques à long terme" (dont une séance est consacrée aux AO - et à HAL).

"Digital libraries, whether commercial, public or personal, lie at the heart of the information society. Yet research into their long term viability and the meaningful accessibility of their contents remains in its infancy. In general, as we have pointed out elsewhere, ‘after more than twenty years of research in digital curation and preservation the actual theories, methods, and technologies that can either foster or ensure digital longevity remain startlingly limited.’ Research led by DigitalPreservationEurope and the Digital Preservation Cluster of DELOS has allowed us to refine the key research challenges—theoretical, methodological, and technological—that need attention by researchers in digital libraries during the coming five to ten years if we are to ensure that the materials held in our emerging digital libraries are to remain are sustainable, authentic, accessible, and understandable over time. Building on this work and taking the theoretical framework of archival science as a foundation this paper investigates digital preservation and its foundation role if digital libraries are to have long-term viability at the centre of the global information society."
