[Rapport] Cyberenseignement (E.-U.)

Fostering Learning in the Networked World: The Cyberlearning Opportunity and Challenge
(source: National Science Foundation, E.-U., juin 08, mise en ligne en août 08)

"Imagine a high school student in the year 2015. She has grown up in a world where learning is as accessible through technologies at home as it is in the classroom, and digital content is as real to her as paper, lab equipment, or textbooks. At school, she and her classmates engage in creative problem-solving activities by manipulating simulations in a virtual laboratory or by downloading and analyzing visualizations of real-time data from remote sensors. Away from the classroom, she has seamless access to school materials and homework assignments using inexpensive mobile technologies. She continues to collaborate with her classmates in virtual environments that allow not only social interaction with each other but also rich connections with a wealth of supplementary content. Her teacher can track her progress over the course of a lesson plan and compare her performance across a lifelong “digital portfolio,” making note of areas that need additional attention through personalized assignments and alerting parents to specific concerns. What makes this possible is cyberlearning, the use of networked computing and communications technologies to support learning. Cyberlearning has the potential to transform education throughout a lifetime, enabling customized interaction with diverse learning materials on any topic—from anthropology to biochemistry to civil engineering to zoology. Learning does not stop with K–12 or higher education; cyberlearning supports continuous education at any age. [...]"

Enseignement/Recherche (08/03/08)

What can SEASR do for scholars?
- help scholars to access existing large data stores more readily
- provide scholars with enhanced data synthesis and query analysis: from focused data retrieval and data integration, to intelligent human-computer interactions for knowledge access, to semantic data enrichment, to entity and relationship discovery, to knowledge discovery and hypothesis generation
-empower collaboration among scholars by enhancing and innovating virtual research environments
What kind of innovations does SEASR provide for the humanities?
- a complete, fully integrated, state-of-the-art software environment for managing structured and unstructured data and analyzing digital libraries, repositories and archives, as well as educational platforms
- an open source, end-to-end software system that enables researchers to develop, evolve, and maintain data interoperability, evaluation, analysis, and visualization

- SciVee - Pioneering New Modes of Scientific Dissemination
(source: MP Zillman, 20/02/08)
SciVee is about the free and widespread dissemination and comprehension of science. Created for scientists, by scientists, SciVee moves science beyond the printed word and lecture theater taking advantage of the internet as a communication medium where scientists young and old have a place and a voice. SciVee is operated in partnership with the Public Library of Science (PLoS), the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). Please see our Partners page to learn more about them. SciVee allows scientists to communicate their work as a multimedia presentation incorporated with the content of their published article. Other scientists can freely view uploaded presentations and engage in virtual discussions with the author and other viewers. SciVee also facilitates the creation of communities around specific articles and keywords. Use this medium to meet peers and future collaborators that share your particular research interests.

E-learning: 2 rapports du JISC

Retention of Learning Materials: A Survey of Institutional Policies and Practice
Report of a study to investigate the retention of learning materials in the UK. The aim of the study was to document current policies and practice and immediate plans relating to universities’ and colleges’ retention of learning materials and, on the basis of this and other information, to advise universities and colleges on good practice, and advise JISC on future priorities in this area.

Sharing eLearning Content: a synthesis and commentary
A major review and synthesis of the work of various specified projects and programmes engaged in the development, use and sharing of elearning content. The study focused on deliverables and reports from a variety of projects and programmes, including the JISC Jorum, the Digital Libraries in the Classroom Programme, the Distributed eLearning Programme, the FAIR Programme, the Digital Repositories Programme, eLearning Transformational Projects (funded by the Scottish Funding Council) and the Exchange for Learning (X4L) staff development resources.

E-learning: quelques ressources

Digital Storytelling to Enhance Faculty Development in Universal Design for Learning
(source: Educause | type doc: présentation)

"This presentation will demonstrate discipline-specific case studies to enhance faculty development in universal design for learning. We will highlight California State University's EnACT project, which supports learning for 10,000 CSU students with disabilities, and MERLOT ELIXR, a faculty development collaboration across state systems and campuses for developing cases and shared teaching resources."

Improving Distributed Education Through Research: Three Studies of E-Pedagogy
(source: Educause | type doc: présentation)

"The demand for quality, effective online teaching environments is growing. Using three research studies (on social presence in distance learning, threaded discussion, and student technology usage), Academic Outreach proposed synchronous and asynchronous educational strategies to faculty and students in distributed/blended learning environments. Don't miss this opportunity to hear our results."

Using Emerging Student-Centered Technologies to Enhance the Curriculum
(source: Educause | type doc: présentation)

"This session will report on the Digital Enhanced Learning Initiative (DELI), which explores how student-centered technologies can enhance students' academic experiences. Students in five freshman seminars received an iPod or a digital camera to complete course work. Students keep the technology in exchange for sharing information on their use during their remaining four years at the college."

Enseignement virtuel

Sitas, Anestis and Dimo, Irini and Nikitakis, Michail and Papadourakis, George (2007), Preparing students to use virtual learning environments : information literacy and independent researching. In Proceedings Computer Based Learning in Science (CBLIS '07) : contemporary perspectives on new technologies in science and education, pp. 54-74, Crete (GR). (déposé sur E-LIS)

"The basic characteristics of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) and e-learning are presented. The issue of information overload and the production and dissemination of digital information is discussed. The importance and the necessity of access in evaluated information are reported. It is concluded that for underpin of VLEs, the organization of information literacy programmes with the collaboration of faculty members and library personnel, is essential."

Enseignement "combiné": traditionnel et en ligne

Davis, H. C. and Fill, K. (2007), Embedding blended learning in a university’s teaching culture: experiences and reflections. British Journal of Educational Technology, 38(5), pp. 817-828. (déposé sur ECS EPrints)

"Blended learning, the combination of traditional face-to-face teaching methods with authentic on-line learning activities, has the potential to transform student learning experiences and outcomes. In spite of this advantage, university teachers often find it difficult to adopt new on-line techniques, in part because institutional practices are still geared to support more traditional approaches. This paper describes how a project, funded to support international collaboration to enhance learning and teaching in Geography, has allowed a university to explore models for change. It briefly examines the associated issues of sharing and repurposing resources; it reflects on the impact of the project on local strategy, and the importance of sustaining the collaborations and approaches to learning and teaching after the funding is completed."
