[rapport] LOCKSS: évaluation en Grande-Bretagne
Le UK LOCKSS Pilot Programme a été évalué: le rapport est disponible ici (pdf).
"LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) is an e-mail archiving system which enables institutions to keep licensed e-journal content on local servers so that in the event that the material is no longer accessible from the publisher's servers, users can still access it. LOCKSS is an open-source, peer-to-peer, decentralised, digital preservation infrastructure that was developed, and is still maintained, by Stanford University Library. The UK LOCKSS Pilot Programme is based at the University of Glasgow and supports a community of UK LOCKSS users comprising of thirty UK Higher Education Institutions. The report considers the future sustainability of the UK LOCKSS Programme and contains recommendations."

Rapport: JPEG 2000
JPEG 2000 – a practical digital preservation standard? [ pdf ]
Un rapport publié par la DPC (Digital Preservation Coalition).
The report is aimed at organisations involved in the management and storage of digital information. The in-depth report will help archives, libraries and other institutions make informed decisions about JPEG 2000 format and their future storage needs.
JPEG 2000 can reduce storage requirements by an order of magnitude compared to an uncompressed TIFF file. Dr. Buckley says, “This new format has come at a time of heightened awareness about the access to digital documents. Any format that can assist archives and libraries to do this is welcome.”

Educause: DI et conservation des périodiques électroniques
Institutional Repositories and E-Journal Archiving: What Are We Learning?
(source: Educause)

A propos d'un registre sur l'archivage des périodiques électroniques
Le JISC a publié une étude intitulée:
Scoping Study for a Registry of Electronic Journals That Indicates Where They Are Archived (pdf)

Seamus Ross, Digital Preservation, Archival Science and Methodological Foundations for Digital Libraries (ECDL 2007):
"Digital libraries, whether commercial, public or personal, lie at the heart of the information society. Yet research into their long term viability and the meaningful accessibility of their contents remains in its infancy. In general, as we have pointed out elsewhere, ‘after more than twenty years of research in digital curation and preservation the actual theories, methods, and technologies that can either foster or ensure digital longevity remain startlingly limited.’ Research led by DigitalPreservationEurope and the Digital Preservation Cluster of DELOS has allowed us to refine the key research challenges—theoretical, methodological, and technological—that need attention by researchers in digital libraries during the coming five to ten years if we are to ensure that the materials held in our emerging digital libraries are to remain are sustainable, authentic, accessible, and understandable over time. Building on this work and taking the theoretical framework of archival science as a foundation this paper investigates digital preservation and its foundation role if digital libraries are to have long-term viability at the centre of the global information society."
